If you’re looking for some fashion hot takes, then you’ve come to the right place. Over the last year, there have been some new fashion trends, for better or for worse, that have changed the fashion world.
As someone who loves fashion and writes about it for a living, I’ve tried to keep an open mind and give these styles a chance. Over the last year, I’ve watched the trends closely and definitely have some opinions.
With that being said, here are my controversial fashion hot takes.

15 Fashion Hot Takes
Before we begin, I want to preface this list by saying that it is meant to be entertaining and fun. These are controversial hot takes, so it is completely normal for you to disagree with some of them.
When it comes to fashion, what’s most important is that you feel comfortable and like what you are wearing.
With that being said, let me know what you think of my hot takes in the comment section below.
1. Streetwear is Dying
In 2016, streetwear brands like Supreme, Bape and Palace were extremely sought after and hyped up. Now, streetwear brands just don’t have the hype like they once did.
It seems as if the only streetwear brand that has remained relevant and popular is Off-White.
For better or for worse, streetwear brands seem to be on the decline. On the bright side, if you actually like streetwear brands like Supreme, you won’t have to pay ridiculous resell prices.
2. Mom Jeans Are Not It
When it comes to controversial hot takes, it’s going to be hard to top this one. Even though they’re the most popular denim jeans, I think that mom jeans are boring and I hate this style.
If you’re someone who wears mom jeans, there is nothing wrong with that. However, I think they don’t look great and I prefer a different style of denim jeans.
3. Most White Sneakers Look the Same
There’s no denying that white shoes are extremely popular right now. However, I find that there is a lack in originality among sneaker brands and most white shoes look too much alike.
Reebok Classics, Adidas Continental, Nike Blazers and the New Balance 550 all have a super similar look. Personally, I like these shoes, but I just don’t find that there is anything unique about them.
4. Oversized Clothing Is Overrated
Over the last year or two, oversized clothing has become super popular. Now, I do think oversized clothing can look good, but I don’t get why it’s such a popular trend in fashion right now.
In my opinion, fitted clothing suits most people better. It’s more comfortable and there is no need to wear oversized clothing.

5. Simple Clothing Is Boring
Over the last few years, plain clothing has become super popular. There’s nothing wrong with wearing plain clothing, however it does make for a very boring outfit.
As someone who owns a bunch of plain clothing, I will be the first one to admit that the style is boring and lacks character.
6. Nike Dunks Are Basic
When it comes to sneakers, some of the most popular shoes out right now are the Nike Dunks. The Nike Dunks are huge in the world of fashion and social media.
At one time, Nike Dunks were associated with skate style. Now, Nike Dunks are associated with TikTokers and they’ve become super basic.
Like most trends, when everyone hops on it, it begins to get boring.
7. Workwear Looks Sloppy
Don’t get me wrong, I do think workwear has it’s place in fashion. However, I do think that workwear clothing looks sloppy.
If you’re someone who like to wear workwear clothing, there is nothing wrong with that. Just be aware, that there is a time and place to wear your workwear outfits.
8. Pyjamas Should Never Be Worn in Public
Now, I don’t know if this is something that is only popular in my city, but it seems as if wearing pyjamas in public has become a trend among high school students.
When I go to my local mall, there are groups of kids and teens wearing pyjamas.
Pyjamas are one of those things that should only be worn inside the house. If you want to be comfortable when you go out, try wearing some athleisure clothing.
9. Fast Fashion Isn’t Going Anywhere
Whether you like it or not, fast fashion isn’t going anywhere. It’s affordable style and not everyone has a lot of money to spend looking good.
It’s no secret that fast fashion is not the best for the environment. However, many fast fashion brands have made an effort to reduce their environmental footprint.
At the end of the day, when consumers are shopping, they care about the price of the clothing.
There’s a reason SHEIN has become the most popular fast fashion brand in the world. They make stylish clothing at extremely affordable prices.

10. Dad Shoes Suck
Since dad shoes became popular a few years ago, I’ve always found them ugly. There is nothing cool about overly bulky shoes.
If you’re someone who wear dad shoes, I respect you for being different. However, I can’t wrap my head around how these chunky shoes became so trendy.
11. Just Because it’s Designer, Doesn’t Mean it’s “Cool”
In fashion, there are people who think all designer and luxury brands are cool. I’ll be the first one to say that just because it’s made by a high fashion brand, it doesn’t mean it’s cool.
Brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Dior all make cool clothing. However, they make some lame clothing as well.
If you’re someone who feels like you need to wear designer brands to look cool, then your head is in the wrong place. There are plenty of cool brands that are on the affordable side.
If you can afford it, there is nothing wrong with buying designer clothing. However, if you can’t afford luxury items, you shouldn’t break the bank to feel like you’re someone you’re not.
12. Normalize Athleisure
Over the last few years, atheleisure clothing has become popular. However, many people are still on the fence on when athleisure clothing is appropriate to wear.
I think that we should normalize wearing athleisure clothing to the mall, to restaurants and even to work. There is no denying that athleisure clothing, is the most comfortable clothing you can wear.
13. Satchels Are a Nice Fashion Accessory for Men
Satchels for men are a fashion accessory that is seen as controversial. On one hand, people think satchels are “man purses” and they look feminine.
On the other hand, people think satchels are a great fashion accessory and it’s a great way to level up your outfit. They are also very practical.
In my opinion, satchels are the perfect way to level up your own personal style and to stand out.
14. Layering with White Tank Tops is Corny
A fashion trend that can be seen all over TikTok is white tank tops under a button-up shirt. At first, I thought this was a cool and different style.
Now, it feels like every male TikTok fashion influencer is wearing this style. It feels as if the white tank top under a button-up shirt has ran it’s course and I’m ready for some new styles.
15. Crocs Are Cool
Don’t get me wrong, I think Crocs are some of the ugliest styles of footwear on the market. However, I do think Crocs are practical and most of all, comfortable.
If you’ve never worn Crocs, then you should at the very least try a pair on. They are surprisingly one of the most comfortable shoes and they’re super cheap.

Whether if you agreed with my hot takes or not, I think that we can all agree that we have our own unique preferences. At the end of the day, fashion is subjective and what I find ugly, may be what you find cool.
