As a recent college graduate, over the years I’ve done my fair share of partying. I’ve been to all kinds of parties like: dorm parties, halloween parties and just regular house parties.

How To Dress For a College Party For Guys

College guys should dress casually for most parties. For a house or dorm party, jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers is perfect. Dress in light clothing as college parties tend to have many people and get hot. It’s best to avoid wearing many layers of clothing.

College Party Outfits for Guys

When it comes to choosing an outfit for a college party as a guy, you’ll want to opt for casual clothing. Wearing a graphic tee, a plain t-shirt, collared shirt, sports jersey and a sweater are all cool. If you want to dress up a bit more, a button up shirt is fine. However, if the party gets rowdy, it will most likely get ruined!

Depending on the weather you may want to wear pants or shorts.

Jeans, joggers or atheleisure sweatpants are all great looks for a college guy.

How to Choose What Pants to Wear to a College Party?

If you want to look a little more dressed up for a college party, jeans will do the job. For something more comfortable, athleisure sweatpants are perfect. If you want something that is both comfortable and stylish then you should go with the joggers.

For college parties, you can wear any shoes you want. If you don’t want to ruin your shoes, never wear them to a party. Trust me, your shoes will get stepped on, drinks spilled on them and overall get really dirty!

Here’s an important tip. If it’s raining or snowing outside, you’ll probably have to take off your shoes. If this happens, there’s a chance that somebody will steal your shoes or accidentally take them if they’re drunk. Don’t wear your best or most expensive shoes for this reason.

Wearing some black sneakers, like Air Force 1’s, vans or converse will all look nice and won’t get ruined. If you want to dress nicer some white sneakers will look great but will get dirty at the party.

If you like wearing hats or if you are having a bad hair day, wearing a baseball cap, dad hat or snapback are all cool. It’s super common for guys to wear hats at parties.

Can I Wear Sweatpants to a College Party?

You can wear sweatpants to a college party, but consider the look you’re going for. No matter what, wearing thick sweatpants is a terrible idea as you will be extremely hot.

If you don’t want to be underdressed, go for nicer pants options that are still comfortable such as joggers and athleisure sweatpants.

Can I wear Flip Flops to a College Party?

Wearing flip flops to a party is perfectly fine, although not necessarily the most practical. When I was in college I would bring a pair flip flops or slides to parties where I would have to take off my shoes. That way, when drinks spilled, my socks didn’t get wet.

If you have the choice between wearing flip flops or shoes, wearing shoes is a better idea. Shoes look better, and nobody will step on your toes.

Should I Wear a Costume to a Halloween Party in College?

If you’re going to a college halloween party, you should get in the spirit and wear a costume. However, I would recommend keeping your costume simple and fun if you want to meet girls.

Avoid full body costumes, thick heavy masks and lots of face paint. want to be comfortable and allow people to see what you look like.

Wearing a sports jersey is an easy costume that will make you look good, while still being dressed up.

Ask A Friend

If you’re not sure what to wear, ask a friend what they are wearing. Sometimes you don’t know how to dress – it happens. I’ve been there. Asking one of your boys who’s going what they’re wearing so you get an idea is perfectly fine.

Even now that I’ve graduated, when invited to parties I still ask my friends what they’re wearing. It’s important to know how nicely you have to dress. You don’t want to show up overdressed and worse yet, underdressed.

Play It Safe

If you have nobody to ask and you really don’t know what to wear, play it safe. Wear jeans, a white or black t-shirt and some sneakers. This basic outfit always looks good and will be fine for a casual party.

Don’t Wear Expensive Clothes

Never wear expensive clothing to a college party if you don’t want it to get ruined. If your nicest shirt is white designer t-shirt do not wear it to the party. Your shirt will have drinks spilled on it, you will sweat and someone might even throw up on it.

I’ve seen so many people ruin their nice and expensive clothing at a party. One exception is black clothing. If your better and more expensive clothing is black, it should be fine.

I tend to get my nicer clothing in black for this reason. I’ve had many drinks spilled on my shirts , but it doesn’t show at the party, and it looks new again after being washed.

Don’t Dress Too Warm

Party’s get super hot. If you dress in multiple layers you will 100% regret it. The worst situation you can be in, is being at massive party and getting too hot in your sweater and having no place to put it. If you have a car, or a friends car, leave your sweater in it before going into the party.

Avoid Overdressing

Unless you were told, never show up to a party wearing a suit or dress clothes. You also don’t want to be that one kid at the party who looks like it’s their first party because they are overdressed. Stick to my recommendations and you will be fine.

Good Hygiene

Always shower, put on deodorant, brush your teeth and do your hair before a party. You will get hot and sweaty if it’s a big party, so showering and wearing deodorant is a must. Your overall look will be a lot better if you have good hygiene, so don’t forget!

Wear Cologne

Wearing cologne will elevate your look. Every girl you hug will smell your cologne and it will give the impression that you take care of yourself and care about your look. If you start sweating, you’ll also be happy that you wore cologne.
