6 Reasons Why Ray-Bans Are Worth Buying (Product Review)

For many people, it is hard to justify spending over $100 on sunglasses. Although there are other sunglasses that cost less money, there is a reason why Ray-Bans are the most popular sunglass brand in the world.

As someone who has owned (and lost) a few pairs of Ray-Bans, there are a couple reasons why I keep coming back the the brand.

In this post, I share 6 reasons why Ray-Bans are worth it as well as why Ray-Bans are so expensive. We also look at where Ray-Bans are made.

6 Reasons Why Ray-Bans Are Worth it

If you’re looking for a new pair sunglasses, then you may be considering buying Ray-Bans. As someone who has owned a few pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, there are a few compelling reasons why I think they are worth it.

Ray-bans serve their purpose, which is blocking out the sun and protecting your eyes from harmful rays, but the brand is so much more.

1. Unique Designs and Styles

Ray-Ban sunglasses are known for having unique designs to suit different face shapes and personal style. Personally, I’ve owned three different styles of Ray-Bans and have loved each pair.

They have classic looking sunglasses like the Aviators and Wayfarer, to more unique looks like the Hexagonal Flat and the Round Metal.

When looking for sunglasses it’s important to find ones that fit your face nicely. Everyone has a different face shape so that look nice on your friend, may not look great on you.

2. Good Quality (Durable, Scratch Resistant)

Ray-Bans make good quality sunglasses for the price. Compared to other brands, you can really feel the difference in quality.

Oftentimes, Ray-Bans are made with better quality and more long lasting materials than other similarly priced sunglass brands. Ray-Bans last much longer than other sunglasses and many people find the value in Ray-Bans because they’ve owned them for 10 plus years.

Personally, I’ve had a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfare for 7 years. I’ve worn them to school, to the beach and for two full summers when I worked landscaping. My father has had his Ray-ban aviators for over a decade!

These Ray-Ban sunglasses are still in great shape and the scratch resistant lenses still look very good.

3. Polarized Lenses

Many companies will claim that they have polarized lenses. I’ve tried many different sunglass brands from Oakley’s, Pit Vipers and even gas station sunglasses, but nothing compares to the Ray-Bans.

The polarized sunglasses from Ray-Bans give a clearer and more accurate vision. Ray-Ban polarized sunglasses are great for if you find yourself squinting while wearing sunglasses.

Polarized sunglasses are a real game changer!

4. Comes in Different Sizes

A great thing about Ray-Ban sunglasses that many people don’t realize, is that the sunglass designs are available in different sizes. You can find small and larger sizes, which many other brands don’t have.

This way, if you have a smaller face your sunglasses will not look too big on you. If you have a broader face, they won’t look too small.

When trying on my newest pair of Ray-Bans sunglasses in store, the Hexagonal Flat Lenses, I went with the smaller size which suited my face better.

5. Affordable High Quality Sunglasses

Ray-Bans is a well-known name in the sunglass, accessories and fashion industry. While Ray-bans are more expensive than average, for brand name quality sunglasses, they actually have reasonable price point of about $100-300 a pair.

In reality, luxury brand sunglasses made by Gucci, Burberry, Chanel, Versace and Prada can cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars.

With Ray-Bans, you get the brand name, quality and style that you would find with higher end designer brands.

6. Look Good On Everybody

No matter if you’re a college age guy like me, or a guy in your 50’s like my Dad, Ray-Bans look good on everyone! Since Ray-Ban makes many different sunglass designs in a few different sizes, there is something that looks good on everyone.

If you’ve never had a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses, I suggest going into your local Sunglass hut and trying a few different designs on to see what you think.

Why Are Ray-Bans so Expensive?

Ray-Ban sunglasses cost about $100 and $300 a pair. This is more expensive than sunglasses you might find at the pharmacy, gas station or even knock-offs sold at stands in the mall.

While you can pay between $15-$40 a pair for stylish sunglasses at these and other fast fashion stores, they won’t be the same quality as a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Ray-Ban sunglasses are made with high quality long lasting materials. Ray-Bands are also polarized and they offer a wide variety of designs and sizes. The lenses are scratch resistant, so they will hold up where cheaper brands will not.

As someone who has purchased a few pairs of Ray-Bans throughout the years, I absolutely love these sunglasses and find them worth it the money.

Do Expensive Sunglasses Make a Difference?

There are many products that you pay more for, but they aren’t any different than a cheaper alternative. On the surface, many people may think that Ray-Ban sunglasses are just a brand name, but that is not the case.

As long as you don’t lose them (as I have in the past), Ray-Bans will last for years. You’ll notice the lens quality is better than average, the metal doesn’t flake or peal, and generally your Ray-Bans sunglasses should continue to look almost like new for a long time.

Are Ray-Bans Considered Luxury?

Ray-Bans are a well known brand name of sunglasses. However they are not a true luxury brand. They can be considered an entry level luxury item, and certainly are a higher end sunglass brand.

There are luxury brands like Gucci, Versace and Prada who make sunglasses which cost are hundreds and even thousands of dollars.

Ray-Ban sunglasses tend to start around $100, which is a really affordable entry price point for a higher end luxury item.

Is it Worth Getting Polarized Ray Bans?

If you find yourself squinting while wearing sunglasses, then you are going to want polarized Ray-Bans. Polarized sunglasses will reduce the amount of glare making it easier to see on sunny days. Purchasing polarized Ray-Bans will reduce eye strain, increase contrast and give clearer vision.

Where Are Ray-Bans Made?

In 1937, Ray-Bans were originally made in the USA. Since 1999, after Ray-Ban was purchased by Luxottica, production was moved to Italy and China. Luxottica promises that the factories in China are held to the same quality standards as those in Italy.
