Nowadays, there’s an attitude in men’s fashion where guys think they can wear whatever they want, whenever they want, and for the most part, they’re right. However, just because you can wear what you want, it doesn’t mean you should!
Oftentimes, men are making crucial fashion mistakes without even realizing it. You may have a wardrobe with old, out-of-style, or even dirty clothing, which are all huge fashion errors.
In this post, we take a deeper dive at the 8 items that men should never wear in public.

8 Things Men Should Never Wear
1. Slogan T-Shirts
Wearing clothing with slogans is not stylish and should not be worn in public. If you’re trying to dress nicely, then leave your slogan t-shirt at home.
A big fashion mistake men make is wearing offensive, inappropriate, or politically charged slogan t-shirts in public. Wearing a t-shirt like this will only make people roll their eyes, which can be seen as unprofessional and disrespectful.
You’ll look like an immature 13-year-old boy when you put on a slogan T-shirt. Unless you’re trying to dress like an immature teenager, leave the slogan shirt at home and opt for something different.
2. Too Much Cologne
It’s no secret that wearing cologne is a great way to enhance your personal style. However, wearing too much cologne will ruin your outfit, bother those around you, and make it seem like you’re trying too hard.
When it comes to men’s fragrances, less is more. You only need a few sprays, or else your scent will be overpowering, which is obnoxious.
We’ve all been around that guy who wears too much cologne, and it is not fun. Furthermore, never wear cologne to mask a bad odor, or else you will smell even worse!
Remember, cologne never replaces a shower and good hygiene.
3. Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are an outdated style that should be avoided at all costs. If you still have a pair of skinny jeans in your wardrobe, consider shopping for a trendier style of denim jeans.
Nowadays, various styles of pants look way better and have a better fit. Next time you go shopping, look at joggers, chino pants, slim-fit jeans, or even cargo pants.
In fashion, styles are always changing and evolving. Skinny jeans are one of those clothing styles that’s been left in the past, and nobody is wearing them anymore.
4. Socks and Sandals
It’s no secret that socks and sandals are an extremely comfortable combination. However, wearing socks and sandals in public is a major fashion fowl.
Personally, I love wearing socks and sandals in the house. However, I would never wear them publicly because I don’t want to dress like a 13-year-old boy.
Furthermore, sandals should generally only be worn to the pool or beach. In warmer climates, it’s very common for men to wear sandals while running errands. However, it just does not look good.
5. Dirty Clothes and Shoes
One of the biggest fashion mistakes that men make is leaving the house wearing dirty clothes and shoes. Whether you’re going to work, hanging out with friends, or running errands, your clothing and shoes should always be clean.
A big part of growing up is getting in the habit of doing your laundry. It’s important that your clothes does not smell or have any rips in them. When you wear dirty clothing, you’ll give off the impression that you are sloppy and don’t care about how you look.
As a guy, I know how easy it can be to throw on any pair of shoes before leaving the house. However, when you wear dirty shoes, you’re making a bad impression of yourself.
When somebody meets you for the first time, the first thing they will notice about you is your shirt and shoes. That’s why it’s essential to always wear clean shoes and clothes whenever you leave the house.
6. Sports Sunglasses
Sports sunglasses are a practical accessory option when you’re doing yard work or exercising. However, wearing sports sunglasses in a formal setting does not look good.
Instead, opt for a pair of wayfarers, aviators, or clubmasters as they look classier. Popular glasses brands like Ray Bands and Oakley have great styles of sunglasses that look way better than those hideous sports sunglasses.
7. Sweatpants (in some cases)
If it were up to me, I’d want to wear sweatpants all day, everyday. However, wearing a pair of sweatpants in public isn’t stylish and way too casual.
Nowadays, brands like Lululemon, Zara, Uniqlo, and H&M have stylish sweatpants that can be mistaken for a pair of joggers. Wearing this style of sweatpants in public is acceptable, and it’s trendy.
However, if you wear a loose-fitting pair of great sweatpants in public, you’ll be totally underdressed. Wearing a loose pair of sweatpants is equivalent to wearing pajamas in public.
Generally, it’s best to opt for a nicer pair of pants like jeans, chinos, or joggers. However, wearing a pair of stylish sweatpants is appropriate in casual situations.
8. Worn Out Clothing
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a difference between well-loved and worn-out. However, it’s important to know when it’s time to throw out that old piece of clothing.
The issue with wearing a worn-out piece of clothing is that it will become the focal point of your outfit. For instance, if you’re wearing clean shoes, a nice pair of jeans, and a worn-out sweater, your outfit will be ruined.
Adding new clothing to your wardrobe every few months is important so your outfits look clean and new.
