1. Guest Speaker

When it comes to event ideas for college students, an interesting guest speaker is a great way to attract students to an event. Throughout my time in college, I saw a good amount of guest speakers who were super interesting and taught me a lot.

Finding the right guest speaker who will appeal to the college demographic is very important. This can be somebody who has found success in an unconventional way, somebody with an interesting life story or somebody who has found fame.

Attending an interesting guest speaker event is a fun college event for may students. As college students, many of us watch TEDx Talks as they can be inspiring and it encourages an unconventional way of thinking.

If you find a good guest speaker that appeals to college students, expect your event to have a lot of people show up.

2. Student Networking Event

One of the most useful campus events for college students, is a student networking event. Invite students, entrepreneurs and local businesses to the event and watch them mingle.

This is a great opportunity for students to meet new people and it can open them up to new opportunities. Throughout my time in college, I attended multiple campus events and made some really solid connections.

Advertise this event on local social media and around the college campus. Many likeminded and ambitious students will attend this event.

3. Hypnotist

An excellent way to have a college event that will get huge student engagement is to host an interactive hypnotist show. When I was in college, every year a hypnotist would come and it was an absolute blast.

College students are very intrigued and sceptical when it comes to hypnotists, but also highly entertained! Having a hypnotist come and actually hypnotize students makes for a great event that is fun for everyone.

A bonus is that students will be posting funny videos all over social media of their friends getting hypnotized at your event. This just creates more awareness for the college activities and students will do everything they can to attend the next event.

4. Campus Scavenger Hunt

If you’re looking for a fun event for new students, consider doing a campus scavenger hunt. Incentivize the students by offering prizes (even small ones do wonders).

This is one of those fun campus activities that will get students familiar with the campus and college life.

Have students for small groups and create a fun and interesting scavenger hunt. This is a great way for students to explore campus, meet new people and have fun.

A special event that would happen every year at my college was multi-cultural day. Multi-Cultural Day is a great opportunity for students from different background to share their culture with other students.

Multi-Cultural days foster understanding, friendship and school spirit as the atmosphere is so welcoming and fun.

Students can bring different foods, perform cultural dances and play unique instruments. This was a super fun way to learn about the different cultures at my college.

If you plan a multi-cultural day, you’ll find it attended by hundreds of students will be eating, dancing and celebrating each others unique cultures.

6. Arts & Crafts Session

Hear me out, Arts & Crafts may seem like a childish college event, however college students love feeling like a kid again.

As a college student, school can be super stressful. Therefore, sitting back with a few friends and doing some Arts & Crafts is a super fun activity.

It can be something simple like having some colored pencils and adult coloring books, making bracelets or even face-painting.

A great way to make Arts & Crafts a little bit more exciting is by combining a game or fun competition. For example, having a paper airplane making, then flying competition.

Don’t forget to motivate students is by having a small prize for the winner and any runner ups. College students will absolutely love this unconventional event and it will give them a nice break from school.

7. Talent Show

One of the most fun events that would happen at my college was our school talent show. This was a great way for students to show off their hidden talent and for their friends to come and support them.

The best way to get students to show up to the talent show is to promote it around campus and have the performers invite their friends.

Although there is a lot of planning involved in throwing a talent show, it’s super fun and plenty of students will attend it.

8. Therapy Dogs

An event that is super popular across many college campuses is having a therapy dog event. This is an event where students can sit down, pet and hang out with dogs.

Students have a lot of fun at this event and it’s a great way for them to take their mind off of school.

There are plenty of therapy dog companies that will throw events at college campuses. If you have a therapy dog event at school, expect many students to be interested in this event!

9. Free Yoga Class

If you’re looking to plan an event that will get students out of their dorm rooms, try offering a free yoga class. College students are intrigued by yoga and it is a great for students mental health.

Having a yoga instructor come to school and put on a a free class is a good time for everyone. Plenty of students will be interested in attending a free yoga event.

If it’s popular, consider making this a monthly event.

10. Gaming Tournament

Whether it’s board games or video games, college students like to compete against each other. Setting up an event where students can go head to head in a game and win prizes is an easy way to throw a fun event.

Video games like Madden, NBA, NHL or Super Smash Bros. are great as students can play against each other and it can get very competitive.

When it comes to board games, games like Jenga, Cattan, Sorry! and Risk are all good choices.

If you host a gaming tournament, students all over campus will either come by to watch or play.
