From a guy’s perspective, texting first is the best way you can show confidence in yourself. As a guy, having a girl text first shows confidence, which guys tend to find very attractive.
When it comes to dating, many guys actively look for a confident woman. Ideally, if you’re going to text first, just be casual and try to strike up a conversation.
Having a conversation is a good way for you to feel out the guy and see if he seems interested. If he’s engaging in conversation with you, then that’s a really good sign.
2. Guys Suck at Taking Hints
As a guy, I’ll be the first one to say that we absolutely suck at taking hints. Many guys struggle with knowing when a girl is into them and when she just wants to be friends.

If he responds well to being called a nickname, it’s a good indication that he’s into you.

When a girl takes initiative, this is an attractive quality to a man. If you build up the courage and send that first text, the worst thing that can happen is the guy ignores the message.
Even though it can be disappointing, remember that there are plenty of other guys that will appreciate you and be happy to chat.

Here are 4 things to avoid when you’re texting a guy:
1. Avoid Spam Texting Him
It’s no secret that a lot of guys have really bad texting habits. This means that sometimes when you text a guy, he may take longer to answer than you might like.
If a guy doesn’t answer you right away, try to avoid double texting or sending him long messages. As a guy, if a girl starts spam texting me when I don’t answer, it’s a turn off.
It’s better to wait until the guy answers before engaging in a text conversation. In most cases, when a guy doesn’t answer quickly it’s because he’s busy, and not because he doesn’t want to talk to you.
2. Don’t Come Off as too Desperate
As a guy, one of the worst things a girl can do while texting is come off as desperate. Some signs that a girl seems desperate are when she sends a lot of text messages when the guy isn’t answering. Even worse, if she starts calling when the guy hasn’t responded to a text.
In my experience, when girls seem too desperate or overly clingy, guys quickly lose interest. Speaking as a guy, it’s nice to have a girl who is reasonable and enjoyable to text and talk to.
Tip: If a guy is replying with one word answers and is not engaging in the conversation, there is a good chance he’s not interested.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Answer Right Away
Something that I’ve seen other girls do, is wait before responding to a guy’s message because they don’t want to answer too quickly. If you get a text from a guy that you want to talk to, there’s no reason not to answer back right away.
It’s a good sign when you and another guy are texting back and forth responding to each other quickly. This shows that the guy is interested in spending the time texting you.
Let’s face it, if you get along well by text and have great conversations, there is a better chance that there is potential for a relationship.
4. Give Him His Space
As somebody who is apart of Generation Z, something I have realized is that some girls want to text all day long.
Having my own personal space and time for myself is one of the most important things for me. Many guys I know feel the same way.
If the guy is with his friends, at work or just busy, it’s perfectly normal. Many guys need some some space to do your own thing for a bit.
Texting all day long ends up becoming very stale, very quickly. Obviously, some guys may prefer to talk more or less. However, finding that healthy balance that works for the both of you is what’s important.
