On the flip side, fast fashion brands like H&M, Zara and Uniqlo create stylish clothing at affordable prices. Which raises the question…
Is Designer Clothing Worth Buying?
Designer clothing is worth buying if you value unique & timeless designs, high quality materials, superior quality and you can afford it. There are alternatives to designer clothing like fast fashion that comes at a much cheaper price point, but will be lacking in quality.
In this post, I share 6 reasons why it’s worth buying luxury items, why designer items are so expensive and why I buy and invest in luxury clothing, shoes and accessories.
6 Reasons Why It’s Worth Buying Luxury Items
When it comes to designer clothing and luxury items, there are several reasons why they are worth buying. People often say “rich people don’t wear designer” and in some cases that may be true. However a lot of the time, wealthier people are actually wearing designer clothing that is not flaunting logos.
Here is a deeper look as to why it’s worth buying luxury items.
Quality Materials and Fabrics
When it comes to why designer and luxury clothing, bags and accessories are expensive, something that is often overlooked is the quality of the materials and fabrics. People who have never owned luxury items, may think that the items are expensive because of the logo and brand. In reality, many luxury items are made with higher quality and long lasting materials.
For example, a Saint Laurent leather handbag is made with high quality materials and craftsmanship. Whereas a less expensive handbag from a brand like ALDO or H&M will be fashionable, but may use a lower quality man made leather.
The craftsmanship of fast fashion does not compare to the quality of designer brands.
Unique and Trendy Styles
Luxury and high fashion enthusiasts like to buy designer clothing because of the unique styles. Those who are into fashion want to wear the latest luxury fashion trends.
Designers have their own unique look and trademarks that are often replicated by fast fashion brands. Although the design may be similar, the imitation can never beat the original product.
Oftentimes, designer brands release limited stock of their items, as it makes the items more special and unique. Part of the reason that luxury enthusiasts like to wear designer is because the items are rare and won’t be seen everywhere.
Never Goes Out of Style
A great reason why luxury items are worth it, is because they never go out of style. Brands like Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Versace all have timeless looks.
Items from 20 years ago that are kept in good condition are still fashionable today. When discussing clothing from fast fashion companies, it just doesn’t have the same effect.
The green and red stripes from Gucci, the pattern from Burberry and the Louis Vuitton Monogram will always be iconic. Whether it’s a new item or an old item, people will know what luxury brand it is based off of the logo or the signature trademark.
Luxury brands having signature trademarks is what keeps designer items in style and what makes them worth it.
Luxury Items Last Longer
Items from luxury brands last longer as due to better materials and craftsmanship. Also, generally those who have luxury items will take care of them as they do recognize that the item is expensive.
The straps on a Saint Laurent or Louis Vuitton handbag are going to be made with better materials than one from a fast fashion brand. This will result in the bag looking new and lasting a lot longer.
For example, I’ve owned Gucci Ace Sneakers as well as Adidas Stan Smiths. Both of the shoes are considered to be tennis shoes and I really like them!
However, after wearing the Adidas Stan Smiths for a few months, they began to peel and show serious signs of wearing.
Whereas my Gucci Shoes, even after owning and wearing them for two years, still look very good and show minor signs of creasing. The materials used are just simply a way better quality.
Look Good, Feel Good
As cliche as it might sound, “look good, feel good” is a real thing. When you are wearing something from a designer brand, it will give you a boost of confidence.
Feeling good in the clothing you are wearing is super important. One of the biggest ways to look better is by being confident in your outfit.
Designer Clothes Holds Its Value
On the most part, clothing doesn’t really hold its value. Once worn it’s unlikely that you can resell it for much. Yet, this doesn’t apply for when it comes to designer and luxury clothing. Luxury items can hold and even increase in value over time.
Nowadays, with resale websites like Grailed, Fashionphile and the RealReal, there is always a market to resell your old designer clothing.
Certain pieces that are more limited or sought after, can often be sold for more than you paid. This happens because there is a high demand for the product, but a limited supply.
Personally, I try to purchase luxury items that will either hold or go up in value, because they are coveted.

Why I Buy Luxury Items
When I was in high school, the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 was the hottest shoe and everyone wanted them. Due to the super limited stock, they were extremely expensive and nearly impossible to get your hands on.
At the time I wanted a pair for myself and since they were sold out in stores, I had to find them online. I ended up joining a Facebook group that was for buying luxury items and shoes and I became fascinated by all of the different clothing.
Growing up, I never really knew about luxury brands and the unique designs were intriguing to me. A few years later, when I began working and saved up for Gucci Sneakers.
When I got the Yeezy shoes, I immediately felt the difference in quality and experienced the difference in craftsmanship. From there, I slowly began adding designer items to my wardrobe and realized that if I took care of an item it could essentially last forever.
This showed me the true value in luxury items. When it comes to buying clothing from fast fashion brands, they are designed to only last a few months. Luxury and designer brands are meant to last years.
When I purchase designer items, I look for good deals, I look on resale websites and I look for items that are a good value.
To me, buying, one pair of nice shoes that lasts me 5 years, makes more sense than buying a new pair of shoes every year.

Final Thoughts on Is it Worth it to Buy Designer?
Designer and luxury clothing is something that I am really passionate about. I believe that it is worth it to buy designer clothes as long as you make smart purchases. When some people hear I spent $500 on shoes, they think i’m crazy, yet they will spend $150 on shoes every few months.
Designer clothing is worth it, if you take care of the items so they retain their look and value.
